Participated in herHACK 2024, Switzerland's largest female-led hackathon, where our team secured 2nd place.

The Challenge

We tackled the challenge of how might we raise awareness among the SBB developer community in green and sustainable coding practices. The goal was to create solutions that would:

Raise awareness about green coding among developers and management
Bring sustainability to the forefront of software devopment practices
Introduce concrete measures or programs to guide sustainable development in everyday activities

Our Solution

We developed a prototype of:

Script for evaluating how sustainable the code is: Runs through the code and gives actionable feedback
New section on their existing dashboard showing green coding metrics: Shows relevant metrics that can be looked at in weekly meetings
Grass roots ownership: Assigning ambassadors among developers to keep up to date and share green coding guidelines at SBB
